Activities are normalized in the Sacred Valley UPDATE Urubamba, March 1, 2011 – The weather situation in Urubamba, Cusco has improved remarkably in recent days. Transportation was restored and tourism activities have resumed their transit through different attractions of the department. Sincerely, Aranwa Hotels Resorts & Spas Important information about heavy rains in the Sacred Valley
Due to the heavy rains that have been taking place in the Urubamba, Cusco these last days, Peruvian authorities have declared a state of emergency in the Department of Cusco. 1. The hotel will continue operating normally. The Spa remains open and offering massage and beauty salon services, however hydrotherapy services will be closed due to fuel saving policies. 2. There is currently no risk in the property. As a precaution nonetheless, all guests have been and will be accommodated in the safest room blocks of the hotel, close to exit gate 2. 3. Our Maintenance Department is continuously monitoring all equipments, basements and areas of the property. They inform us on a daily basis about any unusual situation that may occur. 4. The hotel management remains in constant communication with the local authorities in order to coordinate necessary safety measures. Transportation is limited. Only light weight vehicles can pass through the bridge in Huallaybamba; so people traveling on buses or big vehicles have to cross it walking. Also, visitors need to know that a big rock has blocked the railway that leads to Machu Picchu at kilometer 102, according to information provided by the local police. The rock fell on the road this morning at 04:30 am and has blocked the railway. This incident was reported after a routine inspection that takes place before the trains start their usual route. Maintenance work will start as soon as possible. If situation escalates, Aranwa Hotels Resorts & Spas is prepared to provide its Sacred Valley guests accommodation in its property in Cusco, as well as free transportation from the affected area to the city. Within the next couple of days, we will be evaluating the impact of these events on the nearby communities. If it is necessary, we will take relief action as we did last year, as many of our employees have families in the area and their wellbeing is our concern. It is very important to mention that the safety of our guests continues to be our main concern and we will take all the necessary actions to accomplish that. We will keep you posted.
